RYA Advanced Power Boat Course in Scotland Course Content Information

 

If you need to be able operate RIBs or power-driven vessels up to 24 metres load-line length, with up to 12 passengers + crew in a non-private (commercial) environment, you will need the RYA/MCA Advanced PowerBoat Certificate of Competence, and your employer will require evidence of the relevant certificates.

 

This Specially-Designed 5-Day Advanced Day & Night Course is designed to go above and beyond the standard short 2 day / 1 night course, with the new-style centrally-registered Photo-I.D. licence-card certificate. obtain a Commercial Endorsement, you need to undertake the RYA/MCA Certificate of Competence Exam with an Independent Examiner immediately after the course.  You can do the RYA Advanced Power Boat Course without the RYA/MCA Exam, if you do not want the additional Certifcate of Competence.

 

To undertake only the 5-Day RYA Advanced Power Boat Course, you should be competent to the standard of Intermediate PowerBoat (certificate not required), with navigation and chartwork ability to the level of RYA Coastal/Yachtmaster Shorebased.   To undertake the full RYA/MCA Examination after the RYA Advanced course you should have 2 years' relevant experience including night pilotage. As a guide: 20 days seatime, 2 days as skipper, 400 miles & 12 night-hours.   You also require a VHF Radio Licence and acceptable First Aid.   The Course will take place over 5 days, and includes at least 2/3 night exercises.   The RYA/MCA Exam, will take place from the afternoon of the last day and go through until late-on (darkness).
