The ICC International Certificate of Competence is like your International Driving Licence for Sailing Yachts and PowerBoats.

It allows you to charter or flotilla around the world, as is accepted by governments and charter companies around the world, including some of the most popular locatios such as Croatia, Greece, Spain etc.

For sailing yachts, you can get it by completing your RYA Day Skipper Practical Sailing Course.

For powerboats up to 10m (33 feet), it's the RYA PowerBoat Level 2 Practical Course.

Both the Day Skipper and PowerBoat Level 2 are Photo-I.D. certificate cards, registered centrally with the RYA, have common translations on the back and are generally accepted in their own right by most countries and charter companies.

Once you've obtained your eligible RYA Certificate, you can send the simple ICC Application form away to the RYA with a copy of your passport details page and a copy of your RYA Certificate, and you will receive your ICC in the post.   If you're an RYA Member it's free, and if not you can either join the RYA to get it for free, or pay the application fee (around £40.00).

Generally the cost of 1-years' RYA Membership is about the same so it is normally cost-effective to just join for a year at the same time.
